Men's Sheds and More

Back to Activities

Men's Sheds and other workshops are shared spaces where you can enjoy fixing and making things in the company of others. Many come just for the tea and banter, and people of any skill/experience over the age of 18 are welcome.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • meeting people with similar interests can lead to new friendships;
  • learning new skills is useful & stimulating;
  • getting out of the house and doing something different gives you a sense of achievement.

Richard introduces the Shed at The Green Backyard:

What to expect?

Men’s Sheds, Community Sheds, or other men's workshops are similar to garden sheds – a place to pursue practical interests at leisure, to practice skills and enjoy making and mending. The difference is that garden sheds and their activities are often solitary in nature while Community Sheds are the opposite. They’re about social connections and friendship building, sharing skills and knowledge, and of course a lot of laughter. They usually have a cuppa (and possibly biscuits) too!

Sheds are for anyone age 18+ (sometimes including women) – you can have lots of practical experience or none.
