What to expect
TLC: Talk, Listen, Change offers the following services:
- Family mediation - helps separated families make amicable agreements about children and shared finances. The TLC team supports ex-partners to resolve conflict and avoid costly court proceedings.
An impartial mediator guides discussions on shared assets, financial disclosure, divorce proceedings, living arrangements, and contact with children. Sessions are delivered in-person or online, with parties together in one room or in separate rooms that a mediator shuttles between.
They offer child-inclusive mediation and encourage the active involvement of children when appropriate. TLC is a Legal Aid provider and can deliver mediation for free or at a subsidised cost.
- Therapeutic wellbeing services - traditional talking therapies alongside advice, guidance, and practical support services.
Traditional talking therapies help people cultivate positive self-awareness, self-acceptance, and resilience in the face of difficult life circumstances. TLC provides therapy for adults, young people, and families. They also provide psychosexual therapy for individuals and partners experiencing challenges with physical intimacy and self-image.
TLC offers additional wellbeing support through keyworkers, link workers, and volunteers that encourage people’s strengths to be part of their solution. They help people feel socially connected and engage with local communities.
- Domestic abuse prevention and support services - holding perpetrators accountable while challenging and supporting them to change their behaviour. TLC works with perpetrators at all levels, from those in the early stages of abuse to those exhibiting high-risk, high-harm behaviours.
TLC run peer support groups for men who have harmed and one-to-one programmes for women, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and people who speak English as an additional language. They also run programmes for children and young people displaying harmful behaviours towards parents, siblings or partners.
TLC offers integrated support for partners, ex-partners, and family members who have been harmed by people on their prevention programmes. Support is fully flexible and tailored to the needs of each individual.
- Bridging the Gap - a coaching service for families looking for support with the day-to-day challenges of living with neurodivergence, particularly autism.
TLC coaches provide information and practical support to children aged 7-13 and their parents and carers. Some of the issues they support with include managing sensory regulation, navigating social and communication challenges, helping with transitions, and implementing structure and routine.
Coaches have been trained by the National Autistic Society and have used the SPELL framework and Daniel Hughes’ PACE model to develop strategies, coping mechanisms, and practical resources for parents to learn and take away. Find out more on TLC's Bridging the Gap page.
