What to expect?

Connecting Muslim Mums is a unique six week wellbeing programme designed for Muslim mums, incorporating faith-based and culturally sensitive content. It has been organised by The Lantern Initiative and CPSL Mind. It is run face-to-face in Peterborough, but will also take place online via Zoom for Muslim mums located further afield in Cambridgeshire and South Lincolnshire.

It’s an opportunity to meet other mums and increase your social network as well as develop your self-care and coping strategies. Sessions include activities to help you connect with yourself and others – including breathing exercises, Islamic mindfulness and finding inspiration from the names of Allah. Topics discussed include why attachment matters, self esteem, eating well, the benefits of exercise, learning, being kind to yourself and understanding postnatal depression. For face-to-face sessions, staff and volunteers will be available to look after babies and children, so you can fully engage with the group.

Mindful Muslim Mums is an informal peer support group that meets in Peterborough every two weeks. It is an informal group and you can attend ad hoc, rather than having to commit to a fixed number of sessions that cover a structured course.

One-to-one support from specialist Project Workers (and peers) is also available for Muslim mums and can be offered face-to-face, over the telephone or via Zoom, depending on your location and preference. You can request a Muslim or non-Muslim Project Worker. Muslim Project Workers are multi-lingual so can offer support in Urdu, Mirpuri, Arabic, Gujarati, Kutchi and Farsi as well as English.

More information:

If you are pregnant or have a child under two years of age, please email [email protected] to book a place or for further information. You can also ask a professional (for example your GP, health visitor, social worker or midwife) to refer you.

If you are not from a Muslim background there are other sessions/groups available for mums within CPSL Mind’s Supporting Parents programme.

“I really liked that the session was linked back to Islam to support the messages of wellbeing.”

“The facilitators created a safe space in the group, I was really able to talk and open up.”
