Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice

Back to Support

The Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice provides care and support for people who are living with life-limiting conditions or need pain management, as well as their families, including bereavement support. It is the only specialist palliative care inpatient unit in Peterborough.

Sophie, a Sue Ryder Nurse, takes you on a virtual tour of the Thorpe Hall hospice, showing what patients can expect.

What to expect

Sue Ryder's Thorpe Hall Hospice in Peterborough is a modern facility built in 2015, but the exterior matches the style of the grand 17th century mansion on the grounds.

There are four wings, with inpatient rooms on ground level and every room opens out onto a garden, which patients are able to spend time in as well as their visitors, even if the patient cannot leave their bed (beds can be wheeled outside).

Thorpe Hall’s services include:

  • Inpatient care
  • Holistic family, friends, and carer support
  • Access to online Grief and Bereavement Support
  • Complementary therapies
  • Spiritual care
  • Hospice at Home
  • Symptom management
  • Wellbeing activities such as mindfulness, crafts and more

Staff try to accommodate patients' and visitors' wishes as much as possible. Inpatients are encouraged to bring books, knick-knacks and more to make their room more homely. There are no restrictions on visitors or visiting hours with visitors being catered for with a changing menu of home cooked food (including Sunday Lunch). Well behaved pets are welcome to visit and there is a secure play area for visiting children.

More information

Volunteers are a vital part of the hospice, including those who can help maintain the lovely gardens and grounds, as well as an on-site charity shop. Get in touch if you are interested in a volunteer role.

This support is free of charge.

Thorpe Hall’s expert care for patients and support for families is free to all. As a charity they rely on the generosity of supporters to help raise the funds needed to provide this care.
