Older People's Day Service - Peterborough City Council

Back to Support

PCC's Older People’s Day Service offers a safe and friendly environment for older people who might be finding it difficult to get out and about, and need a bit of help and support. It offers a chance to enjoy some friendship while being well cared for.

Meet Dawn, manager of the Older People's Day Service:

What to expect

The Day Service is within the Cresset in the Bretton Shopping Centre. It is a warm and welcoming space with tables and chairs for crafts, board games and other activities, as well as for eating lunch. There is also a cosy space with comfy chairs for chatting, reading, singing, and other activities. The space and toilets are wheelchair accessible.

You can attend if you are over 65 and live in the Peterborough City Council area.

Staff are fully trained caregivers, committed to supporting people’s individual needs and preferences, enhancing independence and confidence. They aim to create an enriching and caring environment of safety, nourishment, companionship, and stimulation.

There is a wide range of activities for attendees to take part in, including crafts, games, quizzes, gentle exercise and day trips.

The Day Centre has hot and cold drinks and biscuits available any time. It also serves a two course hot lunch which attendees can purchase.

Mrs G says going to the Day Service has changed her life. She feels she has "a new zest for life" and it has "given me more confidence." Mrs G says she enjoys the exercises and games in particular, and that staff are very lovely and easy to talk to.

More information

There are two drop-off/access points: the best one for people with mobility issues is behind the building; keep driving on Rightwell East past the Cresset Centre car park, around a left bend in the road, and on your left just past a few parking spaces for the Fayre Spot pub. See the video below. The entrance for people without mobility issues is inside the Cresset Centre, next to the Fayre Spot pub; park in the Cresset car park (not the shopping centre one, there are steps on that side). There's another video below on where to find the entrance from the car park.

The Day Centre has its own accessible transport provision available if needed.

Tea, coffee, soft drinks and biscuits are available throughout the day, free of charge.

A trial session can be arranged at no cost.

The Day Centre has a range of costs depending on whether or not a two course hot lunch and/or transport is included. Costs are subject to a financial assessment. Contact the Centre for more information.
