What to expect

MUMMA (Mothers United for Maternity and Mental Health Action) is based in Peterborough. This service offers practical help, advice and emotional support for Black, Asian and Mixed Ethnicity mothers, babies and families. The MUMMA team is made up of Asian, Black and Mixed Ethnicity women who have lived experience and are local to Peterborough.

Their aim is to improve experiences of maternity care by providing direct and indirect support during pregnancy and after the baby has arrived. They want to ensure that families can enjoy and celebrate pregnancy, birth and early years parenting in a way that is culturally sensitive and true to themselves.

Support and activities they offer include:

• Support across all stages of pregnancy
• Personalised care planning
• Breastfeeding support
• Tea/coffee support group
• Storytelling
• Mental health support

MUMMA work in partnership with local organisations and experienced midwives who co-produce and design services with the hub. They also work with a storyteller who captures the birth stories of women as a way of preservation of history and a tool of self expression.
