What to Expect

KidsAid is a charity that provides personalised, trauma-informed, long-term therapy to children and young people age 2-18 who have experienced adverse mental health. They help children heal from the effects of trauma, emotional difficulties, poor mental health, and adverse childhood experiences. Through creative, evidence-based, and tailored therapies, KidsAid provides a safe, nurturing space where young people can express themselves, build resilience, and move toward a brighter future.

The sessions are usually delivered in schools. Prior to support, a referral form will need to be completed - by a parent, professional, or caregiver. This can be done via their website by clicking here.

From the moment a referral is made, each step is carefully managed to ensure the right therapeutic intervention is put in place.

This is how the process works from referral through to the start of therapy, which they aim to complete within a six-week timeframe:

  • Once a referral is received, the Clinical Lead reviews the information and triages to determine the most appropriate type of intervention, and advises on the recommended number of sessions based on each child’s needs.
  • Their Business Manager then arranges funding for the intervention. This may involve invoicing the referrer, drawing from their grant funding, or combining both options to ensure accessibility.
  • Once funding is confirmed, their Case Manager allocates a therapist whose qualifications and experience align with the clinical recommendations.

The therapist then completes a three-part assessment process, which includes:

  • A meeting with parents or caregivers
  • Input from schools or involved professionals, and
  • Direct engagement with the child

Once completed, an assessment report is written up, outlining the aims of the therapy, which the therapist will use to guide the sessions.

More Information

The organisation’s work is rooted in early intervention. KidsAid believes that by addressing trauma as early as possible, it can prevent issues from developing into more complex challenges later in life, empowering young people to lead healthier, happier, and more fulfilling lives.

In addition to therapy for children and young people, KidsAid offers support for parents and professionals, working together to create lasting, positive change within families and the wider support network around each child.

These sessions are free for participants.
