Several places in Peterborough offer free or low cost ESOL classes (English for Speakers of Other Languages). These range from formal taught courses to informal spaces where you can drop in to practise some conversation with other learners over a cup of coffee.

Cambridgeshire Skills
Cambridgeshire Skills offer various ESOL courses, from pre-Entry through various levels, and ESOL for employability. These are taught in person at various venues, and are free or have a cost depending on the course and your eligibility. You will need to apply to have an assessment. City College Peterborough
ESOL courses start from Pre-Entry and work up to Level 2. Most people move on to English: Functional Skills after they have passed the ESOL levels. To sign up, contact them by email or telephone (or you can go to their Brook Street campus). They will take your details and place you on their ESOL waiting list. They will contact you once they have a potential date to assess your English and then place you in the appropriate level.

Gladca

Peterborough Asylum and Refugee Community Association (PARCA)
ESOL courses are held throughout the year at their Centre (Unity Hall, Northfield Road, Peterborough, Pe1 3QH). This course is for anyone aged 19+ who does not speak English as their first language, and is suitable for beginners and learners who are not ready to undertake a qualification. Peterborough College
Their ESOL Department offers an array of courses designed for non-native English speakers, from Entry Level 1 to Level 2, online and in person. This department prepares students for diverse settings, ranging from social interaction to professional environments, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Steadfast Training
In-person ESOL programme in Peterborough for anyone aged 19+ wanting to learn and improve their spoken and written English. Contact them on [email protected] or phone 01775 513050. They will invite you for an assessment to determine your level. Sessions are held at Steadfast Training Centre at 2 North Street, Peterborough, PE1 2RA.

WEA
WEA (The Workers' Educational Association) run various English courses for speakers of other languages, at different levels. Funding is available to cover the cost of these courses for those who meet certain criteria. Visit this page on the WEA website and click 'search options' to find courses in your area. There are also online courses available.
