Wellbeing Wanders are relaxed walks around different areas of Ferry Meadows and the wider Nene Park estate, led by a Nene Park Trust staff member. Great if you’re not keen on walking on your own, want to meet new people or want to find new places to walk.
This activity is good for wellbeing because
- it’s social
- it helps you be active
- you’re spending time out in nature
“Lovely walk today. Thank you Jamie for leading and enlightening us on all things park-related.”
“I found it an interesting walk, I learned from it.”
“What a fabulous, informative walk with Chris today. Not the planned walk (walkers’ choice) but nevertheless a most enjoyable one.”

What to expect:
Join a relaxed walk around different areas of Nene Park, led by a Nene Park Trust staff member.
Come along to meet new people, learn new places to walk, or just enjoy a wander knowing you don’t have to worry about directions! Walks are all approximately 5km (3 miles), taken at a relaxed pace. Terrain can vary from tarmac paths to grass paths, so contact the Wellbeing Wanders team beforehand if this is a concern.
There will always be a member of Nene Park Trust staff leading the walk, sometimes assisted by a volunteer or another member of staff. There are usually different people attending the walks, so chances are you won’t the only person who is there for the first time.
Information about each of the upcoming walks is on this webpage; you can also find individual Walks on the Events page here – you can filter the events by ticking the ‘Walks, talks and trails’ box. Meeting points vary, but just come along or book a place, whichever you are more comfortable with. You can also join their closed Facebook group – go here to ask to join – and let them know you’ll be joining a walk via the events featured there.
More information:
Equipment – comfortable shoes that you don’t mind maybe getting a bit dirty especially on winter walks, and a water bottle if desired.
The various starting points are:
- Ferry Meadows Visitor Centre (PE2 5UU)
- Lakeside, Ferry Meadows (PE2 5UU)
- Milton Ferry Bridge (nearest car park is old A47, nearest postcode PE6 7AG)
- Orton Mere car park (nearest postcode PE2 7DZ)
- Thorpe Meadows car park (nearest postcode PE3 6GA)
- Splash Lane car park, Castor (nearest postcode PE5 7BD)
Walks always start near a car park, usually with toilet and café facilities (with the exception of walks starting from Splash Lane, Castor and Milton Ferry Bridge). Some walks are wheelchair accessible in terms of surface, but distance would be something to be aware of. Some walks are not wheelchair/mobility scooter accessible due to the terrain and/or kissing gates. It’s best to contact the team to talk about any questions you have.
All walks are free to attend, led by various staff members from Nene Park Trust.
Parking is free at the Splash Lane car park in Castor, and the old A47 car park (not managed by Nene Park).
Usual parking charges apply at Ferry Meadows, Orton Mere, and Thorpe Meadows car parks. Charges vary, find out current rates here.
