Wellbeing walks are short, sociable group walks led by friendly, trained leaders who provide encouragement and support. They are open to everyone regardless of age, fitness or ability and welcome those less able or who may be facing a mental health challenge.
This activity is good for wellbeing because
- Walking is a gentle form of exercise making it an excellent choice for those who find staying physically fit a challenge
- Wellbeing walks offer opportunities to meet other people from your community which can help reduce the risk of loneliness or isolation
- Being outside in nature is great for your mental health

What to Expect
Wellbeing Walks are sociable group walks led by trained leaders. They are open to adults of any age, fitness or ability but many are aimed at those who are less active. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that are weather-appropriate. Bring some water to drink.
The walk leader will meet the group at the designated start point and everyone sets off together, on time. The intention is to walk at a consistent but steady pace, making sure no-one gets left behind. Many people will take the opportunity to chat with each other but it’s also fine if you just want to enjoy the movement and the views. Some groups will also go for a coffee afterwards, this varies from location to location.
More Information
There are walks at different locations across Peterborough on every day of the week except Sundays, so you will likely find one that suits you. They range from 40 – 90 minutes long. Find the days, times, locations, and contact details for each Walk Leader on the Vivacity Health & Wellbeing webpage here.
All of the walk starting points have parking, and many are accessible on foot or via public transport.
Participating in a walk requires you to have registered with The Ramblers via their website – click here to do so. You only need to sign up initially and then you can join walks anywhere in the UK. It’s free to join and a very quick and easy process to complete your basic details.
Fancy Exploring Further Afield?
There are also Wellbeing Walks in our neighbouring district of Fenland.
Wellbeing walks are free to join but you will need to sign up with The Ramblers before your first walk.
