What to Expect
The sessions are friendly, structured and suitable for people of different ages and abilities. Whether someone is completely new to martial arts or has previous experience, they will be supported throughout the session.
What happens during a session?
Sessions typically include a warm-up, movement and fitness activities, followed by age-appropriate judo, MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) or martial arts techniques. Participants will have opportunities to practice skills individually and with others, with sessions finishing with a cool-down and recap where appropriate. The coaches focus on confidence, discipline, respect, teamwork, and physical development alongside learning martial arts.
Do I need to register or book?
Yes. Participants should register before attending their first session. This allows them to collect the relevant information they need and make sure the session is appropriate for them. Booking requirements may vary depending on the specific programme or session. Visit their booking page.
What happens when I attend for the first time?
New participants will be welcomed by a member of the team and shown around the club. The coach will explain what to expect and introduce them to the session. There is no expectation for a beginner to know what to do straight away.
If someone is nervous about attending, they or their parent/carer can contact the team beforehand. Staff are happy to answer questions, explain how the session works and help make your first visit as comfortable as possible.
Do I need previous experience?
No. The sessions are suitable for complete beginners. Coaches adapt activities to different ages, abilities and levels of experience, so participants can learn at a suitable pace.
How long are sessions?
Session lengths vary depending on the programme and age group, but the regular martial arts sessions are generally around one hour.
Do I have to stay for the whole session?
They encourage participants to stay for the full session wherever possible, as sessions are planned as a complete activity. However, they do understand that some children or young people may need additional support or may become overwhelmed. Parents/carers can discuss individual circumstances with the team in advance so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
