What to expect
The main indoor area has six 'rinks' (playing lanes) which are open to hire every day of the week, except when matches or other special occasions are on and holidays. Members can book through the website.
There are also six organised 'roll up' sessions per week, where any member can just turn up, enter their name and be entered into the draw to select teams. This is a fun way to meet other members while practising your bowling.
The Centre also has three lanes in a separate room that can be booked for boccia, sight-impaired bowlers, and other groups (such as a Parkinson's group).
An outdoor bowling green has six rinks open during the warmer months.
A well-stocked bar is open to purchase drinks five nights a week in the lounge area, which has comfy chairs around low tables for eating, drinking, and socialising. There are also vending machines to purchase some snacks and drinks.
The Centre is fully accessible, with disabled parking spaces, ramps, and disabled toilets. There are also regular toilets and changing rooms.
The driveway to the Centre is between two houses on Burton Street, and marked with a sign - see the photo. The entryway to the parking area and the Centre is gated, controlled by an entry fob that members are given.
Members can bring friends along to try out bowling at the Centre.
Try it out!
If you are interested in giving it a go but don't know a member, please contact the centre to arrange a time with one of the members who will show you around and play a session with you, even if you've never played bowls before. Special indoor-only shoes must be worn on the indoor green to keep it from damage from outdoor shoes and debris; if you don't have your own, they have a selection of sizes from children's to men's you can use (these are fully sanitised after use). They also have a selection of different sized bowls, or 'woods', for you try.
Find the Centre's contact details in the How to Contact section, or visit their website here to find out more and how to book.
Whatever your level, from newbie to experienced competitor, the Centre offers coaching sessions at a reasonable price for those who would like to improve.
