Flag Fen Archaeological Park

Back to Activities

Discover Flag Fen, famous for its ancient Bronze Age archaeology. Follow the footsteps of our ancestors and explore the reconstructed prehistoric landscape and discover treasures from over 3000 years ago.

What to expect

Flag Fen Archaeology Park sits in the midst of a unique Bronze Age landscape that has revealed a mysterious timber causeway and platform made by people 3,500 years ago. It is an important, ongoing archaeological site, where many discoveries about the ancient people and how they lived in this area are being made.

There are things to do for children and adults of all ages, including:

  • A museum of artefacts
  • Causeway remains and a new reconstruction
  • Bronze Age and Iron Age Roundhouses
  • The Big Dig - where children can feel what it's like to take part in an archaeological dig!
  • There's a children's play area, and lots of places to run off some steam, plus you can have a picnic
  • There's also a flock of Soay sheep, a breed that was kept by Bronze Age people

But there is more to Flag Fen than pre-history; the park is also a place for nature to survive and thrive. There are walks and activities to discover some of the wildlife and habitats in the area. You can also organise group tours. Find out more about what to do at Flag Fen here.

There are many organised opportunities for children to learn about various historical and nature topics, such as:

  • Fledgelings for preschoolers
  • School trips on topics in the school curriculum
  • Home Education activities
