What to expect

Cancer is not pleasant. Talking with someone who understands can make a big difference and, in some cases, helps people understand the treatment process. Perhaps you're newly diagnosed, on treatment or a survivor, or perhaps you're supporting someone with cancer and you need a bit of support yourself - everyone is welcome. Come and meet people who understand and chat over a cuppa.

The meetings normally last an hour or perhaps longer; they sometimes have speakers and demonstrations. These meetings are monthly in Stamford, Ryhall and Oakham. The Oakham meeting is a drop-in, Ryhall is an evening meeting, and Stamford meet in the afternoon.

There are also monthly walks at Burghley House; gentle strolls through the park at your own pace. A softer first step if a meeting feels too much. Coffee afterwards for anyone who fancies one.

There's no need to book but you can ring before a meeting if you'd like to know what to expect and the team can look forward to meeting you. They have lots of lovely volunteers to meet and greet especially new people.

The cancer support group does not give medical advice, but rather support and signposting.

All their meeting venues are accessible.

They encourage carers to come along as they often need support, too.

All the meetings and walks are free. They ask for a donation for refreshments, but that's voluntary.

For Burghley Park walks, people may purchase refreshments if they choose.
