Local Energy Advice Programme (LEAP)

Back to Support

A LEAP home visit helps households save money and stay warm. You’ll receive tailored energy advice, bill and tariff checks, simple energy-saving measures like LED bulbs, and eligible households may also be referred for replacement appliances or larger energy efficiency upgrades.

What to expect

LEAP (Local Energy Advice Partnership) is a free energy and money saving advice service. Green Energy Switch provides DBS-checked and fully trained LEAP Home Energy Advisors who carry out a full home energy visit to assess how your home uses energy, and identify ways to help you stay warm and reduce your bills. During the visit, advisors provide tailored advice and practical support based on your household’s needs. The service includes:

  • Installation of free, simple energy saving measures such as LED lightbulbs, draught proofing, letterbox brushes, reflective radiator panels and hot water cylinder insulation.
  • Energy bill and tariff checks, helping you understand your energy usage, review your tariff and identify opportunities to save money.
  • Damp and mould checks, along with practical advice on heating, ventilation and everyday habits to reduce condensation and improve the comfort of your home.
  • Water tariff checks and water saving devices, helping to reduce water costs where possible.
  • Guidance on how to use your heating controls effectively so you can heat your home efficiently and avoid unnecessary energy use.
  • Referrals to IncomeMax for income maximisation checks to ensure you are receiving all the benefits, discounts and support you are entitled to, as well as bill management advice, debt advice and signposting to energy suppliers’ customer support services if you are struggling to pay your bills.
  • Support with supplier contact, including registering for the Priority Services Register (PSR) where appropriate.
  • Referrals for larger scale energy efficiency improvements, such as boiler repair or replacement, loft, cavity, external and internal wall or underfloor insulation, solar panels and other low carbon technologies.
  • Replacement white goods and energy efficient appliances, where eligible, to help reduce household energy use.
